Terminator 2 Sunglasses to Release in April The Hollywood Reporter

Until the fifth part of the blockbuster franchise hits screens this summer, the Terminator won’t be back — but the steampunk Matsuda shades made famous by star Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) are.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Heritage capsule collection, the artisanal Japanese eyewear company (sported by everyone from Amanda Seyfried to Robert Downey Jr.) will re-release the 2809 frame sported by Hamilton in the role of the unflappable Sarah Connor.

The anniversary collection is the latest release in a long line of collectible pieces from Matsuda, known for its high-tech-meets-pop sensibility.

With each pair taking more than 100 hours to craft by hand (and some of the same artisans working on the new 2809s, which they first crafted 25 years ago), only 250 limited-edition box sets in two colors, antique silver or antique gold, will be released in April at select retailers. Each $1,500 set comes with polarized mineral glass lenses, removable side-shields, an optional brow bar, and leather cases, all in a handsome bamboo casing.
