Millie Bobby Brown Fans Are Defneding The Stranger Things Star Over 'Homophobic' Memes From 2018

Millie Bobby Brown fans are jumping to the actor's defence after memes from 2018 have resurfaced online, as the new season of Stranger Things dropped on Netflix last week.

The 18-year-old actor, who was just 14 at the time, was forced to deactivate her Twitter account after being turned into a bizarre ‘anti-gay’ meme, with thousands of users attributing fake homophobic and racist comments to her – presumably in an attempt at ‘satire’.

The original tweet that reportedly started the cruel trend read: “I saw Millie Bobby Brown in the airport and asked for a pic and she said “only if you remove the hijab” and I said “it’s my faith” and she aggressively pulled it off my head and stamped it on it.”

Twitter users then jumped on the trend, inventing their own ‘racist’ and ‘homophobic’ reactions with Millie, alongside the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbieBrown.

The actor, who has long been an advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights, has not rejoined the social media platform since.

Fans have understandably leapt to Millie's defence. “these millie bobby brown homophobe jokes have got to go like even god rested… she literally had to leave twitter years ago because of it you people are genuinely weird,” read a series of tweets from one user.

Another said: "some of you have gotten way too comfortable bullying millie bobby brown for her entire childhood and saying it's "just a joke" like it's actually bizarre...".

“those millie bobby brown homophobe jokes were never funny actually ,, making up harmful narratives about a child, a literal tween which she cannot defend herself from is fucking weird and disturbing,” said one fan, while another shared: “People are STILL making homophobe millie bobby brown jokes? IN 2022???”.

One viral tweet, which has received almost 17,000 likes and over 1,000 retweets, sums the situation up perfectly: “the way twitter talks about Millie Bobby Brown is so nasty I literally just know we're going to get public apologies 10 years from now when she's farther removed from this situation and starts talking about how badly everyone treated her”.

In a recent interview, Millie and co-star Noah Schapp (who plays Will Byers in the show) were questioned about Noah's character's sexuality, to which Millie responded: "Can I just say, it’s 2022 and we don’t have to label things.

“I think what’s really nice about Will’s character is that he’s just a human being going through his own personal demons and issues. So many kids out there don’t know, and that’s OK. That’s OK to not know. And that’s OK not to label things.”
