Megan Chernin, Frank Marshall Combine Efforts for Educational Nonprofit

LA’s Promise and the Los Angeles Fund for Public Education, two Southern California-based educational nonprofits, are joining together to form the LA Promise Fund.

The Los Angeles Fund, founded by Megan Chernin in 2011, is responsible for multiple L.A. in-school programs, including the empowerment program Girls Build LA and the paid internship program for high school students, The Intern Project.

LA’s Promise, which started in 2006, manages three LA-based schools, where graduation a college acceptance rates have risen. The nonprofit was also recently approved to open a charter middle and high schools in South Los Angeles.

Together, LA Promise Fund will be dedicated to helping Los Angeles students prepare for college and, later, careers.

“The new enterprise formed by the combination of these two extraordinary organizations will be in a unique position to seed great programs that can then be developed and rolled out across the County,” said Chernin.

“By joining forces, LA’s Promise and the LA Fund will create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts,” added producer Frank Marshall, co-chair of LA’s Promise. “Both are tremendously ambitious organizations dedicated to improving the quality of kids’ lives through education — and there is no doubt that we can accomplish far more together than we ever could separately.”

Veronica Melvin will lead the newly established LA Promise Fund, with all current board members of LA’s Promise and the Los Angeles Fund having been invited to continue their roles.
