L.A.s Former Dorothy Chandler Estate Up for Sale (Exclusive)
The longtime Windsor Square residence of Los Angeles Times publisher Norman Chandler and his philanthropist wife Dorothy Buffum Chandler is being put up for sale for $11.25 million.
The 9,329-square-foot Beaux Arts estate, located at 455 S. Lorraine Blvd. in Los Angeles, is owned by Joseph Handleman and Courtney Callahan, who are in a legal dispute with a prior owner they say misled them about the state of disrepair the property was in when they acquired it in 2006 for $8.75 million.
Since then, the couple has embarked on a restoration of the manse, which was sold in 1997 following the death of Dorothy Chandler. The property, known as “Los Tiempos” (Spanish for The Times) was used by Chandler for the fundraising endeavors that led to the construction of the downtown arts and music center that bears her name.
“It really just feels like old L.A. money,” says Joe Babajian of Rodeo Realty, who has the listing.

Windsor Square is a small, historic neighborhood of about 1,100 residences just east of Hancock Park in the Mid-Wilshire area.
The eight-bedroom residence, built in 1913, sits on a 0.83-acre lot and includes a swimming pool.
The property, which is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, will formally be listed on April 24. Josh Flagg of Rodeo Realty also has the listing.
The residence isn’t the only local property with ties to the L.A. Times that is up for sale.
A traditional brick Bel-Air home once owned by the late Judy Garland is being sold by philanthropist Stephanie Booth Murray, the great-great granddaughter of General Harrison Gray Otis, the first editor of the L.A. Times and founder of the Times Mirror Co. in 1884. The five-bedroom house is listed for $7.1 million; Murray acquired it in February 2011 for $5.2 million.
