Couples Sex Tapes Reality Series in the Works at eOne, Armoza Formats

Entertainment One and Israel-based Armoza Formats are developing for the U.S. market Sex Tape, a reality series about real couples filming their most intimate moments and then viewing the footage with other couples.

The co-production marks the latest twist on the relationship genre, and will feature one hour episodes in which three couples shoot their own lives for an entire week. Then they meet with a relationship expert and the other couples to view the footage and confront truths about one another.

Branded a “provocative social experiment,” Sex Tape is being shepherded by Tara Long, executive vp U.S. alternative programming at eOne.

Armoza is also developing the project as a format in Germany, Spain, the U.K. and other territories. 360 POWWOW took the local rights for the Sex Tape format for Argentina, Chile, Peru and Colombia.

Other reality series in the relationship genre include the AMC Networks dating show Sex Box. Based on the U.K. show of the same name, Sex Box followed real couples whose relationships are on the rocks.

The couples have sex in a soundproof box and immediately afterward, address their issues with a panel of experts for a series of emotionally honest conversations about intimacy. Elsewhere, VH1 aired for three seasons Naked Dating, where each episode focused on a man and a woman as they each date two different — and naked — suitors.

At the end of every hourlong episode, the man and woman analyze what they’ve learned from their dates and themselves before deciding whether to move forward with their potential love matches.
